Acrophobia is easy to pick up. Here’s how a game works from start to finish.

The Basics

1

See the Letters

At the start of each round, random acronym letters appear on screen — for example, S · P · L. The number of letters varies (3 to 7) depending on the game settings.
2

Write Your Phrase

You have a set amount of time (default 90 seconds) to write a phrase where each word starts with the corresponding letter. For S · P · L, you might write:
Someone Please Laugh
The funnier, cleverer, or more creative your answer, the better. If categories are enabled, your phrase should also relate to the category theme.
3

Vote

Once time is up, all answers are revealed simultaneously. Everyone votes anonymously for their favorite phrase. You cannot vote for your own answer.
4

Win the Round

The phrase with the most votes wins the round. The author earns 1 point per vote received, plus a bonus point for winning the round. After all rounds are complete, the player with the highest total score wins the game.

Game Flow

A typical game has 3 to 10 rounds (configurable by the host). Each round follows this cycle:
  1. Category Vote (optional) — If category mode is set to “per round,” players vote on which category to use for that round.
  2. Submit Phase — The acronym letters appear and the countdown begins. Write your phrase before time runs out.
  3. Vote Phase — All submissions are revealed. Pick your favorite (45 seconds by default).
  4. Results — Votes are tallied, authors are revealed, and scores update. A short break, then the next round begins.
After the final round, the Game Over screen shows final rankings with a celebration for the winner.

Tiebreakers

If the top scorers in a round are tied for votes, a tiebreaker vote takes place between just those answers. In the event of an overall game tie, the player with the most individual round wins takes it. If still tied, it’s a shared victory.

Tips for New Players

The best answers are usually the ones that make people laugh out loud. Don’t overthink it — go for humor over cleverness.
You might come up with a better answer if you keep brainstorming instead of submitting the first thing that comes to mind.
When categories are enabled, answers that fit the theme tend to get more votes. A Pop Culture answer about a trending show will beat a generic phrase.
